Svetlana Pulina
Svetlana Pulina was born on April 5, 1986 in Vladimir. Studied at the Faculty of Art and Graphics at Vladimir State Humanitarian University. 2008-2014, student at the Moscow Art and Industrial Academy named after S.Stroganov at the department of Artistic Glass. Since 2015 creates a series of objects of flexible “living” forms. The main materials for work are glass, metal mesh, and wire.
«After graduating I have begun to work on big projects. Last 10 years I created ceramics, restored sculptures and architectural panels, worked as a sculptor, and made mosaics for temples. All this experience, which shaped me as an artist, i apply in my work with glass. Skills received from working with different directions give me a possibility to combine materials and techniques, to experiment, and form an individual artistic language. Combining «incompatible» I try to express conflict, opposition, dialog, which I see everywhere- in world, in life, in nature.
Glass is specially loved by me for the unpredictable and willful nature - it IS difficult to predict exactly how the work will look at the end. When I interact with glass, I feel like I am collaborating with the material itself, and that is something that is very important to me. I consider the glass' spontaneity and impulsiveness, and use shapes to redirect its impulses. The shape only partially includes the future product, leaving room for the hot glass to expand freely. Restraint is opposed to freedom, movement to pause, texture to smooth gloss surface. My objective is to create a “living” natural flexible form that I - as an artist - only witness as it undergoes its birth process.
